Mr. Garbia’s practice focuses on real estate, business, intellectual property and corporate law. Mr. Garbia's experience in conducting residential and commercial real estate closings gives him both vocabulary and substantive knowledge to effectively communicate with both sellers and purchasers and legal professionals ensuring that important nuances are properly conveyed in both directions.
Mr. Garbia's clientele range from Fortune 500 companies to small and mid sized companies. Mr. Garbia concentrates his work in commercial real estate development, acquisition, sales, leasing and finance. Mr. Garbia has served as an expert in real estate litigation matters offering opinion in the field of real estate, commercial lending, and business transactions and has rendered professional opinions about the standard of care, duties and obligations for attorneys in connection with closing on a commercial lending transaction; the standard of care, duties and obligations of title agents/companies in connection with the closing of a commercial lending transaction; and the standard of care, duties and obligations of a settlement agent in connection with the closing of a commercial lending transaction.
Mr. Garbia has facilitated commercial real estate transactions ranging from one to thirteen million dollars each and is extremely experienced in the customs and practices of the commercial lending industry as they relate to settlement attorneys and settlement companies. Moreover, Mr. Garbia has handled hundreds of matters both as an attorney involving loan documents, security instruments and filing requirements.
Mr. Garbia also has a wide range of intellectual property law experience. He has been involved in litigation related to trademark/trade dress, copyright, trade secret, patent, and licensing and non-compete agreements. Prior to founding Garbia, MacGregor & Plocki, LLP, Mr. Garbia was an associate at an Intellectual Property boutique firm in Northern Virginia where he practiced Intellectual Property law with an emphasis in patent prosecution, patent licensing, corporate formation and organization, corporate financing (including stock purchase agreements and private placement offerings), client counseling on IP and corporate issues, trademark litigation, licensing, search and opinion work. His work included filing trademark applications and responding to Office Actions from United States Patent & Trademark Office.
In addition to his work with Garbia, MacGregor & Plocki, LLP, Mr. Garbia is also the co-founder and president of S&T Title, LLC a full service real estate settlement services company and agent of Chicago Title Insurance Corporation.
